VOLUNTEERS IN CUSCO
Senor de Huanca´s Association is very grateful to all of those who helped us with our children and their family. We are very proud and very grateful to each and every one of the former volunteers and friends who have passed through our organization and saw it grow alongside our children.
Senor de Huanca´s Association offers the unique opportunity to perform volunteer work while studying Spanish and getting to known Peruvian culture - Cuzqueña. In Cusco, we offer accommodation in our family - Accommodation, for those who are interested in volunteer work or for those wishing to collaborate with the project.
Staying with our family in the city of Cusco, definitely, is one of the best ways to learn the language of Spanish and it’s one of the best ways to support and help the children of the project Senor de Huanca.
In their daily lives, the volunteers can perform different activities in the project as well as the activities mentioned in their travel guides.
Requirements:
- 18 years old or older
- Minors must be accompanied by an adult. (school or family)
- Communicate in Spanish. (Basic / intermediate)
Upon arrival you will need to rest and get used to the altitude: Cusco is situated at 3300 metres in the high Andes. You will also need time to adapt to Peruvian culture. Then you have to include yourself and relate with the team and children. Therefore we believe that a stay of 1 month as a minimum is necessary for your help to be significant and also to contribute to the project and learn from each other.
As a volunteer you have to take into consideration what it means to work with poor children. Children and their parents come from situations of great poverty, hardship and families in conflict. These families are mostly cases of malnutrition, alcoholism, sexual abuse, child violence, family violence, etc... Many children do not know what are the values and natural norms. They live without attention, love, respect and self-confidence. Therefore these areas are the foundation of our work with poor children in Cusco.
As a volunteer, you need to be able to easily adapt to the lifestyle and housing of other countries for their different customs and you do not have to expect much luxury.
If you are a father or mother and you want to come with your minor children and do this kind of work, we have included this alternative and opportunity for those who wish to do so. We will be glad to receive them and share different experiences. (New)
